Xpeng announces 800 kW HPC charger

Xpeng will launch its S5 Supercharger in Q3 of 2024, which will deliver up to 800 kW outpower. For now, the S4 column launched in 2022 is the most powerful charger of Xpeng’s.

The newly released S5 Supercharger is liquid-cooled and has a maximum output current of 800 amps, a maximum output voltage of 1,000 volts, and up to 800 kW output power. It can charge more than 1 kilometer in 1 second and more than 300 kilometers in 5 minutes. The S5 charging pile can start plugging in less than 13 seconds and it also adopts safety configuration that exceeds national standards, which is safer.

The S5 is expected to go into operation in Q3 of 2024 and will join the S4, which Xpeng launched on the Chinese market in August 2022 and has a maximum output of 480 kW. According to CN EV Post, Xpeng currently has 1,300 charging stations in Chinese market, including 1,000 supercharger stations. By 2026, the company wants to put 10,000 charging stations into operation, including 4,500 liquid-cooled fast-charging stations.

China's emerging electric vehicle manufacturers are competing fiercely not only in electric vehicles but also in charging station construction. For example, in December, Nio launched a charger of 640 kW besides its fourth-generation battery swap station.

On June 13, Nio put the first fourth-generation battery swap stations and 640 kW superchargers into operation. The supercharger has a maximum output power of 640 kW and a maximum output current of 765 A.

Up to now, Nio has 2,306 supercharger stations in China, offering 10,532 chargers, and 1,619 destination charging stations, with 12,385 chargers. The number of its iconic battery swap stations is 2,458.

Li Auto is also positively building charging infrastructures preparing for the launch of more battery electric vehicle (BEV) models next year.

For now, Li Auto has 701 supercharging stations. The company aims to have more than 2,000 supercharger stations by the end of 2024 and more than 5,000 by the end of 2025.
